Psychology and Computers

Technology has an impact on or affects the entirety of our lives today and it’s no different when it comes to psychology. In the same way technology affects the way people behave, work, and think, psychologists also use technology to explore and understand mental illnesses as well as to treat them. Technology also helps psychologists with their research, allowing them to collect and analyze data more quickly and accurately than they could otherwise. Technology her comment is here is an integral aspect of psychology research and treatment. From using computers to perform imaging with fMRI, to creating electronic tools for evaluating and tracking symptoms of patients suffering from anxiety or depression.

Technology also impacts the way humans interact with the digital systems they interact with on a daily basis. Many of the most renowned technology companies in the world have large departments staffed by psychologists who are experts in human cognition and perception. They conduct studies to determine how people react to certain designs, and make recommendations accordingly. In reality, the majority of the time, when you’re using a piece of technology, whether it’s your phone or Facebook, you’re benefiting from the partnership between computer science and psychology.

Sidney D’Mello, a researcher at Notre Dame University, is one of the many researchers who work at the intersection of computers and psychology. His research is focused on “affective computing,” which is the study of how computers recognize and interpret emotions. His team, for instance, has developed an algorithm that can aid computers in predicting when the person is about become frustrated or anxious and determine the best course of action prior to the event occurs.
